ABSENT installation at Shoreditch Town Hall
"A young woman enters a hotel. She is magnetic and compelling, yet strangely detached, as if in a dream; she knows everyone, yet is utterly alone; she has many lovers, but loves no one; she is 18 years old
- or is she 80?"

Lucy McRae Lecture- 26 Nov 2014
"In this lecture, body architect Lucy McRae tiptoes on the edge between imagination and innovation.
Lucy McRae is a body architect exploring the relationship between the body, technology and the grey areas of synthetic and organic materials. She invents playful, imaginary worlds underpinned by the tools of science fiction and technology, to create portals of possibility that provoke the way people embody the future.
Trained in classical ballet and interior design, Lucy staked her claim as the world’s premier body architect during her formative years at Philips Design. Working in the far future design research lab she developed stretchable electronics, an electronic tattoo and a range of emotional sensing dresses awarded Time Magazine's Best Fashion Invention in 2007."

'Shooting Thoughts' by Filipe Vilas-Boas
"This past week, experience designer Filipe Vilas-Boas launched his latest public project, Shooting Thoughts, in the stunning French Gothic church of Saint-Eustache, Paris. Co-commissioned by Art, Culture et Foi and Nuit Blanche Paris, Shooting Thoughts is an interactive installation project that uses projection mapping to create a “constellation of stars.”
Shooting Thoughts uses "text messaged thoughts" to create catalysts "for laser beams that travel up the pathways defined by the building's architecture. The project description explains,“The pillars are used as launch stations that carry the star to its final destination on the ceiling of the church via the arches and vaults. Like all of us, each star finds its place at its own speed with its individual trajectory.”

I-LANDS Installation
I-Lands is an interactive installation that incorporates sound, water, wax, and temperature to explore the chaotic and random individual influences constantly present in climate and landscape formations. Composed and generated by individual visitors that engage with strategically placed 'activators', it is a generator of topographies. The work acknowledges that individual actions can generate unpredictable processes.
Part of Ines Dantas's *Emospheric Arch-I-pelagos series, it was performed in June 2012 at the Institute for Experimental Architecture, in Innsbruck, Austria.

'Thinking With the Body' at the Wellcome Collection. Until October 27th.
Wayne McGregor is well known for his physically testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations across dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science. In 2000, he and his company Wayne McGregor | Random Dance embarked on a series of projects investigating aspects of creativity in dance with researchers from other fields such as cognitive and social science.
This exhibition, staged during the run-up to the first performances of his new work for Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, 'Atomos' at Sadler's Wells, offers a glimpse into this interdisciplinary research process and the impact it has in the rehearsal studio. Find out more about the process of choreography and how mind, body and movement interact in each of us.
From Saturday 28 September to Sunday 13 October there will be opportunities to meet dancers who have experience of working with the ideas discussed in the exhibition. The dancers will offer a unique insight into and practical demonstration of physical thinking techniques. Sessions will run on Thursdays 18.00-21.00, Saturdays and Sundays 14.00-17.00.

'Universal Everything & You' at the Media Space, September 21st 2013 - February 7th 2014
Universal Everything & You is a new digital installation of two artworks by art and design collective Universal Everything specially commissioned for the Virgin Media Studio.
The first work, 1000 Hands is created by contributions from the public through a smart phone app. In the gallery space it takes the form of a circular projection onto multiple screens, with each one showing an individual artwork generated by app users.
Presence, the second work, is a collaboration with the LA Dance Project and has been created by using motion captured performances of dancers which will be played back with evolving digital ‘costumes’.
Universal Everything, founded in 2004 by Matt Pyke (b.1975) are a UK based digital art and design collective who work with a global network of designers, artists, musicians, producers and programmers. For Universal Everything & You Matt Pyke has collaborated with composer Simon Pyke, Benjamin Millepied’s LA Dance Project and architect Irene Shamma.
Opening 21 September 2013 at the Media Space at the Science Museum, Exhibition Road, South Kensington, London, SW7 2DD
Open seven days a week, 10.00-19.00 during the school holidays. Entry to the Museum is free.

What does performance have to do with architecture?
How can a building perform, and how can we perform a building?
Come on a playful journey through the gallery in its current phase of spatial and structural transformation, taking a look at architectural and art practices that explore how our physical bodies interact with built form.
With talks, performance, a workshop, and sound and film from Alex Schwederand Lamis Bayar, Kreider + O’Leary, Effie Coe, Emptyset and The Architecture Foundation.

Philip Beesley's Hylozoic Series
Hylozoic Ground, by Philip Beesley
This work is a growing, touring artwork that suggests a new kind of responsive architecture.
It can now be found at the Sydney Biennale (september 2012).
The Hylozoic environment can be described as a suspended geotextile that gradually accumulates hybrid soil from ingredients drawn from its surroundings. Akin to the functions of a living system, embedded machine intelligence allows human interaction to trigger breathing, caressing, and swallowing motions and hybrid metabolic exchanges. These empathic motions ripple out from hives of kinetic valves and pores in peristaltic waves, creating a diffuse pumping that pulls air, moisture and stray organic matter through the filtering Hylozoic membranes. 'Living' chemical exchanges are conceived as the first stages of self-renewing functions that might take root within this architecture.
(Excerpt from the press release for his installation at the Canadian Pavilion at Architecture Biennale Venice 2010 ).

| burble in Singapore: Haque design and research |
![]() |
The first Burble ever, launched at the open ceremonies of the Singapore Biennale 2006, was known as Open Burble and consisted of a 15 storey structure designed, assembled and controlled by members of the public. The purpose of the project was to explore how people could design and contribute to their urban environment at a massive scale, albeit just for one night.
Haque design and research are well known for creating the Burble, but are responsible for many other interactive works. They can be found at http://www.haque.co.uk.
